WYFP: Adapters and Such

So, some of you may recall that my wife fell asleep sitting on the couch and dropped her laptop on the floor, resulting in a few hundred dollars of work done with a new hard drive and a new install of Windows 10. Since getting the computer back, she has stopped using her lap desk to hold the computer, sitting it on a small stool instead.

This means that, while she can see the screen fine, she has to lean forward to use the keyboard and trackpad, so she asked me if an external keyboard could be used. I said probably, but since the computer didn't have a keyboard port, I'd need an adapter to hook it to one of the USB ports on her computer. And so, I found myself at our local Best Buy last week with purchase of an adapter in mind, to use with one of my salvaged keyboards.

It had been a while since I had visited this store, and the first thing I noticed
was that there had been some rearrangement, and the area where they used to have adapters and such was now an extension of the large appliance area. Conferring with an employee, I found the computer section to be on the opposite side of the store, and I took up my search there.

No joy. They had no ps/2-USB adapters.

In fact, they had none of the adapters they used to carry, Period.

At this point I could have taken my leave, and gone a few doors down to the Office
Depot store. I couldn't have gone around the corner and stopped at Radio Shack,
since their current business model covers online sales with small branches in
appliance or hardware stores in small cities, like Monroe, WI (but not Freeport,
IL, or even Chicago. Go figure). I could have put it off until I could visit Micro Center, but that would have to happen after a cardiac rehap work out, and I'd run the risk
of forgetting to do it because I was tired and wanted to rest. I did not want
to order it online because it seemed that something like that should be available
locally.

So I decided to look at what they had in the way of USB keyboards, and managed to
find a wired keyboard for $15.00. It's Windows 10 compatible, too. But that's my
friggin' problem, you can't find adapters locally any more.

And then there's my usual FP:
